Hazel

"I can see where the fairies danced last night, the grass is greener and taller in that circle. Their lanterns hang like tired flowers along the path. The fairy dust glistens as dew in the morning light. Their curtains are drawn like fine mist across the pond." SOLD

Nina

"My gran is my mother's mother. My mother is my brother's mother. My mother's brother is my gran's son. My mother's son is my brother. Family, you have to love them." Donated to charity, be happy.

Oman

"For Christmas I added the snow. They said there's no snow in Africa but I found some in a cushion and scattered it around. It looks real. Real amazing." Donated to charity, be happy.

Tearrinse

"Hip, hip, hurray, it's my birthday." Donated to charity.

Ichmal

"I called it Skadoka
they called me a palooka.
It's Sukodu they said
get it in your head!
No matter the name
it's just a game.
It's about counting one to nine
and getting it all in one line.
Tsk tsk tsk
I'm so good at this." Donated to charity.

Ready to go to market

I had to plan and scheme
to achieve my dream
I’m on target
ready to go to market
there’s no more I can do
now its up to you.
Visit us at Kamers Irene
where you’ll see me
with my creatures
and their unique features
come and get yours
before they close the doors.

Thanks for your love and support
else this would have come to naught.
Still a bit of this and that
then I have to change my hat
and now the storyteller
must become the market seller.

Petron

"Who's who in the zoo?
I'll give you a clue
It's definitely not a shrew
Or a shoe or a gnu
Who rolled in the dew
Was it me or was it you?" Donated to charity.

7 days to go

Pack 'em and stack 'em. Get yourselves to market you pretty ugly things. Kamers 2014 Irene.

Dorothee

"I believe in leprechauns. What's not to like about funny little men with funny little hats who have pots of gold at the end of rainbows? So, I haven't actually seen a leprechaun, or the pots of gold but I keep following the rainbow. I hope at the end I get a funny little hat and a pot." SOLD

Freedah

"Sometimes I think that I'm a mythical creature. Like a unicorn. And little children love me and ask me to look after them when it's dark. And they tell me their secrets, and their dreams. And I have the power to make these dreams come true." SOLD

Jewelianne

"We went out to sea, just for the day, just to relax. I saw the mermaid bobbing in and out of the water. She had silvery, shimmery hair and sang a song in a funny accent that made me happy. The accent seemed French but her words sounded almost English: Imnotinloveitsjustasillyphaseimgoingthrough. Imnotinlove." SOLD

Gatspee

"We use all my gran's silver cutlery. It's so pretty. We string it together with wire to make the wind chime, like the one we saw at the market. When the wind blows through it makes the most delightful sound. The sun catches the movement and dazzles us." SOLD

Teebow

"We build a fort under the dining room table. We use all my mom's tablecloths to build the walls. It's so secure you can't even see where the entrance is. My mom tries to set the table for dinner but our best men defend the fort. She retreats, defeated. We eat dinner in the lounge, with trays on our laps. We get no dessert." SOLD

Snippels

"Willy
nilly
silly
billy." Donated to charity.

Doovall

"I wish I could take screenshots by just blinking. Sometimes I see something wonderful that I want to hold onto, to share with someone later. Sigh! In the meantime I blink and hope I'll remember it always." Gifted to my nieces.

Cyrus

"Are you sure it's called a marble cake and not a marvel cake? I marvel at the way the chocolate and vanilla stick together but don't mix. Can I have another slice please? Marvellous." Volunteering at the Johannesburg Children's Home.

Nikolowdeon

"I saw this beautiful fox folded from a single sheet of paper. I downloaded the seven easy steps yet mine did not look like a fox. I tried something simpler, like a swan, then something simpler still. Argh! Origami drove me barmy." Donated to charity.

Jessabell

"I lie on the grass, my dog beside me, and we look up at Orion's belt. And I wonder if the stars aren't just fairy dust someone blew up into the sky, and it just got stuck up there, at the edge of the universe." Donated to charity.

Konwhey

"Build this burger stack and steal my heart. From the bottom up - giant brown mushroom, Emmentaler cheese, slice of butternut, tomato relish, beef burger, wilted spinach, hollandaise sauce and a poached egg. No buns, just this amazing stack. Thanks." Donated to charity.

Lynus

"When we go to the sea, it's the rock pools that I like the best. When you get there, it looks empty but if you just wait a while you see all the little creatures in there. I like the anemones – the way they kiss your fingers when you touch them." SOLD

Tersha

"Hide and seek
you cannot peep.
You must count to ten
and come look for me then.
I want to shout: you're hot, you're cold
find me, please, before I'm old." SOLD

Larrimarrime

"Honestly, I don't know why, but every where I go the girls call Larri, marry me. I don't know if it's real or a joke, I make no eye contact, I pretend I don't hear them, but at night just before I nod off, it echoes in my head again: Larrimarrime." Gifted to Bongani.

Jazzpur

"When I was small (very, very small) I thought that someone painted or drew those tiny little pictures on the stamps. I didn't know you could draw it big and then shrink it to fit the stamp. Hmm, my original belief had a lot more wonder, a lot more wow." SOLD

Wellwit

"At the club I put on my cap
and start to rap
I love to rap
because I can say any old crap
like shut your trap
you think it's funny
but I'm not joking, honey
I'm not doing it for the money
I love to rap
like you like to yap
my mother's never been to a show
she doesn't even know
yoh yoh yoh
stay with the flow
I like to rap
I like it when they clap
clap clap clap
got my gap
I'm on the map
I love to rap." SOLD

Veroneek

"I write love poems on buttercup yellow paper and slip them into books at the bookshop. It happened to me once - I found a message that had been slipped into a book, a gift from a stranger that made me so happy." SOLD

Hartie

"Hi, my name is Hartie, I'm having a house party, you can wear something arty, or something smarty." Donated to charity.

Leerooi

"We play all day, my friend, Huggles, and me. Outside under the trees, or in my room. I read him stories, he tells me about his adventures, we build puzzles together and I share my lunch with him. Then my mother calls: Leerooi, leave your teddybear on the bed while we go shopping. I look at Huggles and he says: It's okay, I want to finish this book anyway." SOLD

Lindatjie

"Die eerste woorde wat ek wou leer om te skryf nadat hulle vir my gewys het hoe om letters te maak, is mamma en pappa. Ek is lief vir my mamma en my pappa." Donated to charity.

The final few

Here are the final few PrettyUglys, jostling for position, to get named and to go to market. I don't know what their hurry is, the market only opens next Tuesday, but they want to be in the front row on the third shelf.

And at no extra charge

There is a sprinkling of dog hair attached to every PrettyUgly. Thanks, M and B, you have been most patient while I have been making all the PrettyUglys. And thanks for adding your personal touch to them.

Malenda

" I don't want a big life. I just want an ordinary life. An ordinary life filled with extraordinary moments." Donated to charity.

Tigitwo

"I want to fly like a bird. I've been collecting feathers but my dad says its not nearly enough. He showed me the drawings of da Vinci, wow, amazing, the man was a genius. Hmm, now I am even more inspired."

Eva-Afta

"You give me a rose
I hold it to my nose
then you disclose
your love and propose
It's a yes, I suppose.
(Corny, I knows.)" SOLD

Ladadiva

"The Easter bunny gets his eggs from the chickens. He adds his abracadabra and makes them all sugary sweet, covers them with chocolate and wraps them up in happy colours. He hides them, but he makes it easy for you to find them."

Monday 17 November 2014

Spotchio

"This is my bucket list: To eat macaroons from a pâtisserie in Paris. Eat corn dogs from a street vendor in New York. To swim with dolphins. To ride a horse on the longest beach. To drive along the country roads of Ireland in an Aston Martin." SOLD

Murtell

"I read about it in a book. Wow, a mermaid. I'm in the pool all day wishing, hoping, praying I would turn into a mermaid. My mother shouts: Get out the water, you'll turn into a prune! What? No ways, I want to be a mermaid, where did the idea of a prune come from?" SOLD

Emanli

"The mushrooms pop up all over the lawn and the fairies run under them for shelter. Their wings are already translucent from too much rain." Volunteering at the Johannesburg Children's Home.

Shisha

"Some great artists tattoo the moths and at night they flutter about, vainly showing off their incredible designs." SOLD

Gaybrehel

"I sing from the heart. They say rather from a torture chamber. Ha ha, you guys. I sing from the heart, with all my heart." SOLD

Tommaas

"A thousand yellow flowers from the tree. Sprinkled on the ground as confetti in an almost perfect circle under the tree." SOLD

Jaymee

"For my birthday we go up in a hot air balloon. From up there the flock of sheep below appears as a cluster of fluffy clouds against a spinach sky. The lake looks like a blanket put out on the grass for a picnic later." Donated to charity.

Wednesday 12 November 2014

Buyron

"I'm on my way home from my dad's. The sky is black and hangs low. I feel I can put up my hand and touch it, grab a piece of that liquorice flavoured candyfloss, but when I try it's just out of reach, even if I stretch." Volunteering at the Johannesburg Children's Home.

Tianna

"I hear the ice-cream van. He's still in the street behind but I can hear the distorted music, and the little bell. Mom gives us money for an ice lolly, orange or strawberry. They're the best thing on a hot day. Sometimes its our lucky day and we get a Flake 99, a cone with soft serve and a flake stuck in the middle. Yay, hurray." Donated to charity.

Raymund

"I see a man calling his chicken. The chicken wants to obey but as soon as he tries to cross the road a car comes along and he rushes back. The man keeps calling him, and the chicken eventually manages to cross the road, and follows the man all the way home." Volunteering at the Johannesburg Children's Home.

Hannah

"As Roald Dahl said: Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." Volunteering at the Johannesburg Children's Home.

Tuesday 11 November 2014

Johjoe

"I had looked it up - the International Space Station would be passing over my house at 18:37. I was out there waiting. Suddenly there is was, on time. It was lit by the sun, brighter than a star, moving pretty fast. I waved to them, but I couldn't see if they waved back, the sun was in my eye."

Pietr

"En toe, wat sê die mense? Gaan ons Kersfees see toe of nie? Ek kan nie wag nie, ek wil nou weet."
Donated to charity.

Earle

"How do you like your eggs? I've tried them all. Fried, baked, poached, hard boiled, soft boiled and scrambled. I like scrambled eggs best. No! not an omelette. Scrambled, with tomato sauce. Tasty." SOLD

Cherly

"My mother is teaching me to knit and sew and bake and paint. I enjoy the crafts but what I really love are the stories she is telling me while we work together, about herself, about when she was a young girl. I am getting to know her and she keeps surprising me." SOLD
